What Exactly Are Makeup Brush Sets Anyway?

Many women spend a lot of money on their makeup. But a surprisingly small number will even think of investing in good quality makeup brush sets. Most women I know will either use their fingers to dab on their makeup or will just pick up whatever makeup up brushes they can find at the drug store or the supermarket while shopping for groceries. In my book, that’s a strict no-no.

The Importance of Makeup Brush Sets

Here’s a fact – your makeup brushes are just as important as your makeup. And I’m going to tell you why. But first, let’s take a look at what your makeup brush sets are and what you have to do with them.

A makeup brush set will include brushes that you can use to apply different makeup. For example, there will be a separate brush for blush and another one for your eye shadow. Generally, the set will include most or all of the following:

foundation brush
concealer brush
powder brush
blush brush
blending brush
lash and brow comb
stiff and fluffy eye shadow brushes
kabuki brush
mascara wand
detail brush

Some sets are made for professional makeup artists and may carry additional brushes that you will see no use for. Others may carry just four or five brushes. The set usually comes with a pouch or some kind of containment unit which will protect your brushes and help you keep them organized in one place.

Do not be stingy and make the mistake of buying a set with a limited number of brushes. You might think you can always inter-change the brushes for different applications. But it is highly inadvisable to do so as each brush is specifically designed to serve a purpose. The one created for your eyes will be softer and will sweep the gorgeous colors over your lids just perfectly while the one for your blush will gently contour your face and cheek bones. Plus, it is basic makeup hygiene to keep separate brushes for different makeup applications.

So I’ve gone on about what’s in the set without telling you the main reason you should invest in one. The answer can be summed up in one word – blending.

Any makeup diva will tell you that the secret to excellent makeup lies in the blending of colors as well as the foundation and concealer. While you think your fingers or department store brushes do just fine, you will see the difference immediately when you use good quality makeup brushes. I can guarantee that no matter what your makeup skills, the correct brushes will ensure a better finish.

Another reason for going in for a set is usually the cost factor. I’ve seen different makeup brushes being sold individually. And I’ve seen a lot of brush sets. The sets are undoubtedly cheaper than individual pieces. It’s basic economics.

So whether you are a minimalist when it comes to makeup or an all out diva like me, a makeup brush set would make a valuable addition to your quest for beauty.
