What Does a Basic Make Up Set Consist of?

I love using makeup, but I find that stuffing. Keeping everything that I use into my handbag makes it quite cluttered and things start falling out every time I open it! I decided to invest in a makeup kit after seeing some of my friends carry these handy little pouches around, that opens up and can be used for the most essential makeup items.

Since they contain small amounts of makeup, a lot more fits in, so rather than carrying 5 different lip products in my bag, I figured I would be a lot better off carrying one make up set that could hold all these, as well as other items.

What Can You Find in a Basic Make Up Set?

Makeup sets contain all kinds of makeup and beauty products and you can pick one that suits your requirements. These range from small kits that carry only the essentials to larger professional ones that would have a whole range of products in different shades included.

The most basic make up set would contain cosmetic items that you use on a daily basis. Now, most of us would differ in opinion about what counts as the most essential items, but there are a few items that we mostly use on a regular basis and these are:

  • Makeup Brushes: We’re not talking about a whole range of professional brushes here, but basic brushes that can serve more than one purpose. These normally include the lip brush, which can be used for lip liner and lipstick, the eye makeup brush, which is perfect for the application of eye liner and eye shadow. The kit may also include a larger ‘mop’ brush which can be used for applying blush and powder foundation.
  • Concealer and Foundation: A small amount of these products may be stored in tube, stick or cake form and can be applied when required. Since these are small amounts of the product, they don’t take up as much space as carrying the whole jar of foundation in your bag! You may also find kits with small of powder blush included.
  • Eye shadow, Mascara and Eyeliner: Small tubes of eyeliner, mascara and a few basic shades of eye shadow are included in most of the makeup kits. These shades can be mixed and matched as per your choice to create new colours and effects and are normally neutral colours. When you are buying a makeup kit, check whether you can buy the eye shadow colours separately so you can replace them when they are empty or you may pick colours that you like.
  • Lip Colours: Most makeup sets include a few lip colours, which can be used the way they are, or mixed with other colours for a new effect. These double as lip liners and lipsticks. You can also carry your favourite shade of lipstick along with it, as a tube of lipstick doesn’t take much space.
  • Mirror: Which makeup kit would be complete without one of these, especially for quick touch ups when you aren’t at home?

These are the basic items that you would want in any make-up kit, if you think there could be a value addition to this list, leave your comment here. Other readers are always looking forward for your comments.
