Top Celebrity Hair Styles For A Retro Party

Advertisements

The retro look has been a huge favourite for the theme and vintage parties for many years now, especially since many celebrities have started wearing the look. The popularity of clothing and hairstyles from the decades gone past has literally been exploding with people of all ages and professions choosing to dress like fashionist of the days gone by.

I love the fact that the growing popularity of the decades from the 20’s to the 80’s is fast becoming the most popular trend in the fashion industry. This means that everyone’s having fun with the vintage look and celebrity hair styles are mirroring this trend. Actors, pop stars and other famous people are creating their own signature style and these are being picked up by regular people like you and me too.

A friend of mine planned a retro themed party this year for her birthday, where guests would have to dress like a celebrity, which I thought was a very unique and interesting idea. Theme parties have become quite common, but for a birthday party it was something new. Deciding what to wear is easy, but when it comes to the perfect hair, it takes a little extra effort.

What Celebrity Hair Styles are Appropriate for a Retro Party?

I’m sure that every one of us has seen a retro celebrity hair style at one point or the other. They’re literally surrounding us every time we watch television or read a magazine. Even print ads on streets and stations are full of pictures of these hairdos. Celebrity hair styles have been catching everyone’s attention.

  • The 1920’s to 1950’s: The elegant structured curls and short hairstyles of these decades are still extremely popular. Celebrities like Gwen Stefani and Katy Perry have made them a byword for red carpet fashion and they are perfect for any retro party. To make them look really authentic, wear a feminine dress or a gown and accessorise with glamorous jewellery and gloves. Red lips and bright eyes are the best choice of makeup.
  • The 1960’s and 1970’s: The beehive hairstyle that famous personalities like Kelly Osbourne and Amy Winehouse turned into a fashion statement for today is quite easy to pull off. To get this look right for a retro party, make sure you apply bright lip colour and thick eyeliner, pulling it upward and outward at the corner of your eyes. This gives you a 1960’s sex kitten look which is very fun, feminine and sophisticated.
  • The 1980’s: The popularity of the bob, which is now a hairstyle choice for most women who prefer short hair can be attributed to this decade. In contrast, long hair with large soft curls is an excellent option for long haired women. For a vintage party, team any of these hairstyles with structured jackets (think shoulder pads) and bright colours. Geometric prints, large sunglasses and chunky jewellery will complete the look.

I hope you’ve enjoyed the vintage and retro look for your party and if these tips helped, do tell me about it!
