The hot days are here again. We’ll soon see girls in short skirts and tube tops, and boys in their cargos and flip-flops. It’s the season of skin. Everyone takes extra efforts to get into shape for all those tiny clothes. And the makeup is just as important. However, makeup in the summer is very different from makeup during the colder months. I’m going to share some summer makeup tips with you that I have had to learn the hard way over the years.

Basics of Summer Makeup Tips

‘Less is more’ about sums up the rule for the summer. But that does not mean that you always go with a natural look or minimal makeup, unless you want to, of course. Since most women end up getting a pretty nice tan during the warmer months of the year, all they need to is a little lip gloss and they’re good to go. Their skin gains a natural glow from the heat and they look beautiful even without makeup.

The most important item in your makeup kit this time of the year is your sunscreen. While a tan is welcome, you want to avoid those harmful UVA and UVB rays that can burn your skin and are known to cause cancer.

Application of Makeup

Before you begin applying your makeup, gently rub a couple of ice cubes to your face. This will have two effects. One, it will tighten the pores of the skin. Two, it will cool your face immediately and cause the makeup to stay on better. This is one of the summer makeup tips that is recommended by the celebs.

The summer heat means that you should think about the humidity, the heat and sweat before you apply any makeup. Avoid foundation as much as possible as it does not do well in the heat. Instead of foundation, switch to a powder concealer. This is light enough that it will not cake on your skin yet effective enough that it will cover any blemishes. But if you feel you absolutely cannot do without foundation, then switch to a light matte one.

Go easy on the blush. The heat will ensure that you look as rosy as possible anyway. A better look for the summer is bronzer. This adds a touch of color to your cheeks and really complements the sexy tan.

When it comes to eye makeup, it really is best to stick to simple eyeliner or mascara. Make sure they are waterproof though. If you want to do full eye makeup, opt for softer, lighter colors. This will brighten up your eyes considerably.

The same goes for lipstick. Use light pastel shades instead of dark ones. But lipstick does not hold up too well in the heat either. In fact, it would be better to just set your lipstick aside for the summer and go with lip gloss. The gloss will add a sparkle and shine to your lips, which is pretty much all you need.
