Pros And Cons Of Clip On Hair Extensions

Advertisements

A lot of us want to have long, beautiful hair and in the quest for it, quick-fix solutions become a major temptation. There are a variety of semi-permanent methods to increase the length of your hair and give you the flowing tresses of your dream. If you want a long-term solution, then semi-permanent hair extensions are the best choice. They are woven into your hair and look completely natural.

However, these extensions can cause some damage by pulling at your hair roots and they are quite expensive too. So, what does a girl like me do? I can’t afford the price of semi permanent extensions, which can range anywhere between $500 to a few thousands. Also, I’m not too fond of the idea of having these extensions tugging at the roots of my hair, it sounds way too uncomfortable!

I’ve reached the conclusion that clip on hair extensions are the best option for me and some research on these products helped me reach this decision.

Clip On Hair Extensions – Advantages And Disadvantages

These are another kind of semi-permanent hair aid, with some differences. They are clipped directly onto your existing hair, which can be any length and there is no preparation required. I’d like to share what I think are the major advantages and disadvantages of clip on hair extensions, so you can choose whether they are right for you.

Advantages

  • They are very easy to attach to your hair since there is no glueing, weaving or braiding required.
  • They can be removed with equal ease, in no time at all.
  • The process of attaching and removing them can be done at home, on your own. You don’t need to visit a hair stylist, which saves you a lot of money.
  • They are inexpensive and look as natural as semi-permanent extensions.
  • They do not tug at your natural hair, hence reducing the chances of damage or hair fall.
  • You can add highlights or colour them like your natural hair.
  • With regular care, you can expect them to last anywhere from 6 months to a year!

Disadvantages

  • You need to make sure that you pick good quality extensions that match your hair colour and do not fall out easily, which can take a little time.
  • Taking care of these extensions is essential, so you need a regular care routine with products that are gentle. If you don’t condition them well, they can start shedding and looking dull.
  • You may need to buy special brushes that will not tangle in the extensions and pull them out easily, unless you have them already.
  • It takes more time to care for them on a daily basis, as you have to avoid tangles, knots and take more care while applying styling products on them too. If you use a straightening or curling iron, you have to be even more gentle and careful than with your natural hair!
