Organic Cosmetics: Beware Of Duplicate Products

Advertisements

“Go green” is all the new rage nowadays. Be it food, health, cosmetics or beauty products, doing it the natural way is the trend now. Similarly, organic cosmetics are much talked about these days. I myself believe that organic products are much better than synthetic ones. But then, the biggest concern I have is, are all the products that claim to be organic are actually genuine. Now that is a big question?

The market is simply flooded with duplicate products. Many companies (some reputed ones included), though label their products to be organic, are using chemicals to certain extent. Some other companies, outright cheat the customers by selling chemically made cheap products under the banner of natural and organic. Is there no solution against them then? How does a layman know that the product he is buying which says ‘organic’ is actually organic or not. Why should he pay the extra amount to get something better, but end up with something that could be even worse?

How to Recognize Duplicate Products

USDA Certified Organic Products:

As against the common belief, the government does not regulate the cosmetics industry for long-term health impacts, safety or environmental damage. There is no legal definition for words saying ‘natural’ ‘organic’ or ‘herbal’. Any company could use these terms even after using chemicals and there is no action that could be taken against them.

However, products that have certified themselves under the USDA Certified Organic Products are the genuine products available. These brands have used organic agricultural ingredients only and so they pass the vigorous process set by the association.

However, the USDA currently does not stop companies that make unverified organic claims. Meaning, you need not get yourself certified to use the label organic. Many companies thus claim their products to be organic and natural. Some of them might be true, but generally many of them are frauds. Thus, beware of “organic” labeling that is without USDA certification.

Check the Seal on Organic Cosmetics

In order to be sure that the cosmetics you are buying are 100% genuine and organic, always check the USDA certification seal. The presence of this seal will ensure you that there are no harsh chemicals, petrochemical and other dangerous synthetic substances present in the product. It is very important to check this, because if you pick up a product that is not certified, you might end up damaging your skin. This is especially true for cosmetics range, as you use them on your face. So be extra careful when you buy the organic cosmetics.

Thus, what we need is a more strict association that will completely stop the brands that mislead the consumers. Also, the terms natural and organic must be legally defined to use specific ingredients so that those using chemicals in their cosmetics, cannot add the label ‘organic’ to them. Till then, you must be careful when picking up an organic cosmetic from the stores. Check the seal and certification to be sure. Also, always use reputed brands that have proven to be good over ages.
