Hair fall is a problem that I’ve faced for a long time. I’ve gotten used to seeing a few strands of hair on my pillow or the clothes I’m wearing and this normally doesn’t bother me much. There are times, however, when it seems like the amount of hair I’m losing cannot be normal so I did some research on the subject and here’s what I found.
Losing a little hair while combing or brushing it is normal, as is a few strands of hair ending up on your shirt or pillow. Every strand of hair on our heads has a limited life after which it falls out to make place for new hair. This is the natural process of replacement which affects every cell in our bodies.
The time to worry is when you are losing handfuls of hair when you comb it, or every time you run your fingers through it a few strands come out. This indicates that you are suffering from alopecia or hair loss, but you can counter the problem with these hair growth tips.
Hair Growth Tips And Remedies
If you feel that hair loss is becoming a problem for you, it’s time to take a look at your diet, lifestyle and hair care routine. The most common causes of hair loss are stress, exposure to pollution and poor nutrition. The following hair growth tips will help you understand what you need to do for healthy hair.
Diet Tips:
- Include lots of fish, dairy, eggs and meat in your diet. These are rich sources of protein that are necessary for your hair to rebuild as it is protein-based.
- Vitamins like C, A, B12 and E are very essential to your overall health as well as the health of your tresses. Include green leafy vegetables, fresh fruit and a vitamin supplement if necessary.
- Omega 3 fatty acids found in nuts and fish are an incredible source of ‘good fats’ which help keep your skin and hair nourished. Also, drink at least 8-10 glasses of water daily to keep your body free of toxins.
Stress:
- Hectic schedules can play havoc with your peace of mind, which affects your hair also. Stress has proved to be one of the most common causes of hair loss, so take time to include some deep breathing, meditation or yoga in your daily routine.
- Indulge in some relaxing treatments like a hair mask or hot oil massage on a regular basis. This helps to de-stress as well as nourish your hair and scalp, so hair growth is stimulated.
Exposure:
- Environmental factors like pollution are very quick to damage your hair. To counter the ill effects of exposure, tie up or cover your hair when you go out, especially in places with heavy traffic.
- Chlorine in swimming pools can dry out your hair, so make sure you wear a swimming cap when you go into the water. Also, shampoo and condition your hair to replace lost moisture after a swim, not before.
- Avoid too many styling treatments and ensure that you use deep conditioning products at least twice a month.
