You must have come across my previous posts where I talk about how important it is to get good quality makeup brushes. The best makeup brushes will help you to apply your makeup more efficiently and greatly cut down on the time you spend doing your makeup. Good brushes help you speedily and seamlessly accomplish the most important part of makeup – blending. Also, good bushes will actually contribute to making your makeup last longer.
Your makeup brushes are the tools you use to apply makeup to your skin. Your makeup will only be as good as the brushes you use. So I’m going to give you a few tips on how to select makeup brushes that are right for you and which will last for a long time too.
Choosing the Best Makeup Brushes
When you go out there looking for makeup brush sets, you will find many different types of kits available. Some sets will have so many brushes that you will not know what to do with more than half of them. While others will have just a few brushes for specific limited makeup tasks. Then there are kits which have a medium number of brushes – some of which you will personally use regularly and some which you might use on special occasions.
It is always best to buy good quality brushes even if they cost a little more. In fact, the best makeup brushes are slightly on the expensive side. But they are made of the finest materials and you will see a visible difference when you apply your makeup with them. There are, of course, cheaper kits too with several brushes. But the quality of the bristles will not be top notch and you will find that you have to replace it every few months.
Your makeup brush kit should include at least these essential brushes – a blush brush, eye shader brush, a powder brush, and a lip liner brush. With these few brushes, you can achieve anything from a natural look to an out-girl-painting-the-town-red persona.
Now here’s how you can check for the quality of the brushes. It’s all in the bristles. Touch the bristles. They should be soft, fine and evenly cut. The bristles should be cut at an angle and should fall back into place neatly even after you run your finger through them or try to mess them up.
Another thing to consider is the handles of the brushes. If you are a clean freak like me and are prone to leaving your brushes in cleaning solution for hours at a time, then get plastic handles instead of wooden ones. The wooden handle will wear off very quickly if immersed in cleaning solution on a regular basis. Also, if you travel often, then smaller handles will be better for you.
Makeup brushes are supposed to last for about 2 years. If you buy good quality brushes with branded names, you will find that the brushes can actually last for years to come.
