Sometimes it becomes very difficult for you to find that particular shade of lipstick that you have in mind when you have to dig through piles of nail polish, mascara and cotton balls, not to mention other lipsticks. It’s especially frustrating when you are in a hurry and you’re on your way out to work, to a party or to visit a friend – which is almost always the case when you’re applying makeup. I have gone through similar ghastly times as well, so I would like to share a few ideas on how you can organize your make up box so that you don’t have to be in a mess, every time you go out.
Tips To Organize Your Make Up Box
Here are a few simple steps which you can follow to avoid being in a soup, and can get hold of just the right things at the right time:
- Dump the whole thing out – The first thing that you should do is to dump the whole thing out. Now lay them out on the floor or countertop. Keep in mind that you should spread everything on a large area. Cover the surface with a newspaper or towel to protect it from spills.
- Throw away the old and expired stuff – The second step is to sort out the make up according to the date of its expiry. If you have anything past the expiry date, then you should throw it away as they may be harmful. Moreover, every time you use a personal care item, it gets exposed to germs and bacteria. So it is not a good idea to keep something past the due date.
- Mascara should be used only for three to six months.
- Cream blush should be used only for six months to one year.
- Pencils, eye shadows, eye creams should be used only for one year.
- Foundation, lipstick, moisturizer should be used only for one or one and half years.
- Face powder and powder blush should be used only for two years.
Now after you have removed the expired ones, remove those that you don’t use.
- Sort out your stuff – Sort out everything in groups. Keep all the nail polishes together, all of your eye makeup together and likewise make groups of your entire make up stuff.
- Select an organizer – There are different types of make up boxes available for daily purpose. Some have trays and dividers or just one large compartment. Choose a make up box that suits you best.
- Arrange everything in place – If your organiser has compartments then start putting the make up in place as you have already sorted them into groups. However, make sure that everything is properly closed before arranging them.
- Keep everything back in place after its use – The most important thing you should always keep in mind is to put everything back to its right place in the box, after using it. You should also go through your kit once in every six months to remove all the expired stuffs.
Follow these steps to keep your make up kit organized so that you don’t have to waste your time digging through the box every time you want to find something. If you have any tips to share I would like to know, do write to me.
