If you have been wondering where to find a cosmetic company that is truly eco-friendly in its outlook, then I am happy to guide you on your way.
What is an eco-friendly Cosmetic Company?
I feel I should address this question briefly. Although a lot of people today know what it means, there may still be some who have not heard of the concept of eco-friendly goods.
As you might be aware, humans have spent decades exploiting the planet for their own selfish means purely for profit. We are solely responsible for vast deforestation, for the degradation of standards of living across the world, and for single-handedly destroying the flora and fauna and many species of the animal kingdom. Although climate change and global warming are staring us in the face every single minute, we are still not mending our ways.
The cosmetics that we use on a daily basis are full of chemicals that not only harm our skin but harm the water when we wash away our makeup in the sink or when we wash our hair in the bath. This pollutes the water and the earth in unimaginable ways.
Fortunately, there are some companies who are finally standing up and saying NO! They are in the process of developing or have already developed earth-friendly cosmetic products.
An eco-friendly product uses ingredients that are safe for human use and will not harm the environment when it ends up in the trash. They are made of bio-degradable natural minerals and plant extracts. They are not tested on animals and no animal products are used in the product. Also, local ingredients are used in the product and local labor is employed in the manufacturing process so as to cut down on the carbon footprint.
In addition, their packaging is recyclable. They do not have any artificial fragrance made are made with clean energy.
Sounds Great! So Where Are These Eco-friendly Cosmetic Companies?
I’m glad you asked. Your simple personal choice to use eco-friendly products could change the world.
But you will have to put in a little time, research and legwork. First, read up as much as you can about eco-friendly products and green washing. Learn what tricks a cosmetic company will play to make you think their product is eco-friendly. Understand which ingredients are truly natural and which ones are not.
Once you have understood these basics, visit some health shops in your area and look at the products there. These little shops are stocked with products from small companies which do not spend on big-time advertising but instead invest in making their products truly eco-friendly. Talk to the owner or sales person about the different products available and ask their opinion and advice. You may not find what you want right then and there, but the conversation can give you a lead.
If you do happen to find a company that looks like it has genuine eco-friendly products, do not buy their stuff immediately. Read some reviews on consumer forums or check their listing on not for profit websites that want to help consumers make informed choices. Also check out the company’s website, their certifications, and understand the quality checks that they would have had to go through to acquire said certification.
Go ahead and buy the product only when all your doubts have been cleared and you are absolutely certain that the company is one you can trust.
