I am surprised by the number of women who do not know how to do natural makeup. I get email requests every day from a lot of my readers asking for natural makeup tips. I will get similar requests from my colleagues and acquaintances. I suppose it’s because I’ve mastered the art of applying natural makeup and it does not strike me as being all that difficult anymore.
I usually keep my look natural. I’m not saying I don’t like makeup. I’m just saying that the crazy eye shadow is reserved for parties and a night out with the girls. I feel that women look their best when they are natural, with a little help from the makeup box, of course.
How to Do Natural Makeup
Your skin is the most important part of your beauty. If your skin is dull and sucky, your makeup will not be of much use. So the most important advice I can give any woman is to start her journey to natural makeup by first taking care of her skin. It is not as difficult as you think.
Have a regular skin care routine, exfoliate, eat healthy, drink loads of water, exercise regularly. Make sure you get a lot of fiber and have regular movements. I know this is an icky, touchy subject for most, but I have to address it because constipation or irregular digestion can cause dullness and acne.
Anyway, once your skin looks great, you are ready for a lesson on how to do natural makeup. First cleanse your skin. Apply moisturizer. A tinted moisturizer with SPF is your best bet as this blends beautifully and gives your skin an even tone. Now wait five minutes or ten if you have the luxury of time to really let that moisturizer set into your skin.
Use concealer to cover up those under-eye circles, spots and unsightly blemishes. Don’t apply too much as this will just make it obvious that you are trying to cover something up and eyes will be drawn to the problem spot. It is best to blend small amounts by dabbing with your middle finger.
Avoid powder unless you get oily very quickly. In fact, if you tend to look shiny after just an hour or so, skip that moisturizer altogether and just stick with the powder and concealer.
Apply just one or maximum two coats of mascara. This will give your eyes just the right amount of definition. Liner will make your face look made up. But if you really want some, pick a shade that is a hue lighter than your eyelashes. Do NOT use black. For eye shadow, use a shade that is just a touch darker than your skin tone.
For your cheeks, pick a blush that gives you just a flush of color. You know the color of your cheeks right after you’re done with an awesome workout? That’s the right color for you. Just brush it on gently on the apples of your cheek.
Lastly, plump up those luscious lips with a lipstick or gloss that exactly matches your lip color and you are ready to head out the door.
