For the past few days, I was very much concerned about my beautiful strands. Day by day, it was going brittle, coarser, nappy (curlier) and drier. I expressed my apprehensions to my best friend who is a beautician. She suggested some black hair care tips to preserve my gorgeous strands.
The Black Hair Care Tips
- The first and foremost lesson, I learnt was maintaining a healthy life style will help you get healthy hair.
- Regularly massaging the scalp, will promote production of oil, which will aid in minimising hair dryness.
- I was advised by my friend, not to shampoo regularly, as the shampoo strips the oil from my hair. Instead she advised me to shampoo only once in every three days.
- If you are involved in a lot of activities and sweat a lot I recommend you to only wash the hair with water and use shampoo irregularly. Some times you can use a mild shampoo.
- Whilst rinsing hair, normally utilise a gentle shampoo that has a little PH level.
- Do not use a 2 in 1 shampoo and conditioner; on the other hand, use a separate shampoo, and conditioner.
- A hot oil therapy, once in every month is good for your hair. This re-moisturises the scalp and hair.
- Whilst rinsing the hair, massage only in a single direction to avert knotting. .
- Shower hair with lukewarm water. Hot water can make the scalp dry and exasperate.
- Use a conditioner after shampoo, it will moisturise the hair. It also gives some additional protection, puts in polish, minimises the static and makes it simpler to unravel.
- A leave in conditioner that hydrates and safeguards the hair can be considered. I found that having a leave in conditioner on the hair is equivalent to having a moisturiser on the face.
- Another one of the most important black hair care tips, is do not dry hair with hair dryer, instead use a towel gently to dry the water and keep the hair untied till it dries.
- Minimise the usage of hair styling products which use heat.
- One of the important tips for black hair care, I learnt is to use a wide toothed comb or pick to comb the hair. Since, I now use a leave in conditioner; it is very easy for me to comb my hair. When my hair is wet, I always wait for my hair to get dried out, as it gets brittle, when wet.
- While combing, if I encounter a tangle or a hard knot, I just use my finger to relax it, and then resume my combing.
- Likewise I also use a soft boar hair brush every day. This brush assists in distributing the oil at the hair roots and scalp and the remaining hairs.
