Best Natural Cosmetics for Your Skin Type

Advertisements

After I started to use natural cosmetics, my skin started to glow and I looked better than I have in years, and younger too. It came as no surprise then that even with my mediocre-at-best convincing powers, I was able to talk quite a few of my friends and colleagues into at least trying our natural products. My skin was evidence enough that they worked.

So indeed, some of my friend went and bought some of the best natural cosmetics money can buy. And a few weeks later, many of them reported that it just wasn’t working for them. Needless to say, this shook my confidence for a bit.

But I am not one to give up so easily. So I prodded and probed and it eventually came out that the kind of cosmetics my friends were buying were all wrong for their individual skin type.

It never ceases to amaze me how many women do not know their skin type and thus do not know that they have to buy specially designed products for that particular skin type. Many of my friends think that everything on the cosmetics counter in the mall will suit everyone and there’s no need for a little scrutiny or discretion.

Buying the Best Natural Cosmetics for Your Skin

Natural cosmetics contain many wonderful ingredients that cool, heal, nurture and nourish your skin and hair. But what works for one person may not for another. However, if you choose products that are made for your skin type, you should be as delighted with the results as I am.

Dry Skin:

If your skin feels itchy or taut and is a little rough and flaky, you have dry skin. The best natural cosmetics for dry skin include ingredients such as honey, avocado, olive oil, oatmeal, shea butter. All these are super-hydrating and will make your skin softer in a matter of days.

Oily Skin:

Oily skin is characterized by over-active sebaceous glands that make your skin look shiny and heavy. If you wake up with a layer of oil on your skin every morning, you obviously have oily skin. This skin type requires healing and cooling ingredients as it is very prone to breakouts and rashes. Mint, Aloe Vera, Fuller’s earth, clay, purified water, tomato extract, cucumber and almost all fruits are usually a part of natural cosmetics made for oily skin and hair.

Combination Skin:

If your cheeks are rough and flaky but your T-zone (forehead, nose and chin) are oily, then you have combination skin. Most people have this skin type. You can expect to find these ingredients in products for combination skin – calendula, rose, mint, honey, berries, green tea extract, witch hazel, rosemary.

Remember this – whenever you start to use a new product, your skin or hair need time to get used to it. So do not ban a product after using it just for a couple of days. Plus, you have to keep in mind that since you have been using chemical products for years, there is bound to be a buildup on the surface of your skin and hair. This means that on beginning to use your natural cosmetics, your skin and hair will undergo a major detox that may take a couple of weeks or more. So be patient.
